Summary: It's time for a classical gothic horror story. One full of aristocrats, haunted houses, murder, and of course, ghosts. But in typical Guillermo del Toro fashion, one might find solace with the supernatural over the natural.

History: Thomas and Lucille Sharpe are a seemingly wealthy pair of aristocratic siblings who in fact live in squalor in their dilapidated mansion on Crimson Peak, a hill over a red clay mine. The two are also an incestuous couple, and because Thomas needs money for his inventions, they lure in wealthy wives to take their fortunes and kill them. Lucille enjoys the killing while Thomas has many regrets about it. And now they've set their sights on yet another hapless lady. But alas, there's a spanner in the works this time, in the form of the many restless spirits that inhabit Crimson Peak, who do everything they can to warn the girl of her potential fate.

Notable Kills: None.

Final Fate: Eventually, the ghosts reveal to our protagonist exactly what's going on, and she goes on the defensive. Thomas can't take it anymore, and after being killed by Lucille, assists his would-be fiancé in killing Lucille with a shovel. Presumably, the ghosts move on to the Afterlife after their killer has died, while she remains in Crimson Peak as a black ghost playing a piano forever.

Powers/Abilities: Immortality, phasing through things.

Weakness: None.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-At first, these ghosts look like the stuff of nightmares. Most of them are coated in what looks like blood (or it could be the clay their bodies were stuffed in), they move in unnatural gaits, and they continue to bear the wounds they received before dying. Wounds which, mind you, include bashed-in skulls and severed parts. However, they ultimately want to see justice brought to Lucille, and are otherwise harmless.

Trivia: -As one might guess, the two masters of playing as tall skinny monsters were the ghosts in this film. Those two being Doug Jones and Javier Botet.

-Apparently, del Toro had the entire mansion built from scratch, with not a single prop from before being utilized. He was that determined to nail the appropriate aesthetic, and it's probably one of the reasons he considers this to be one of his best works, in spite of the mixed reception.
